Origin of kathi roll can be traced to a restaurant by the name NIZAM founded in 1932 at Kolkata, one of the many theories behind this dish is that the British officers wanted to enjoy Kebabs but were apprehensive to touch them hence the chefs came up with an idea to wrap the kebabs in parantha or a bread and Kathi roll was born.

 

TRIVIA

Original Tava weighing 110 Kgs which was installed at Nizam is still used but now weighs little more than 80 Kgs due to wear and tear.
